Hello World

Welcome to my playground, where I use words to play with thoughts and ideas. I hope you enjoy it. You can see my works either by clicking on the tabs that are at the top of this page or by scrolling down the right hand side of the page to Categories.  Use Categories if you want to “like” or comment on an individual post.  Of course when you open up a Category, the words don’t have any punctuation so click see more and voila! The tabs at the top give you what is essentially one long document for each category, which works well if you just want to read through a category. Musical Vignettes is a work in progress and includes some great chapters if you like music and musicians. There are stories like how I was a roommate at boarding school with the kid who wrote the theme song for Mash, hanging out with a rock and roll band in Quebec City when I was sixteen years old, meeting guitar great Doc Tibbles in Kenora Ontario, and a bunch of other stories and memories. Passing Thoughts are just that. Minor observations, oblique looks at life.  Poetry is self explanatory and is also constantly growing although I have posted some older works and may dig up some more from the past that are worth sharing. Prose contains a variety of essays and some short non-fiction memoirs as well as short fiction such as “Miss Carruthers”. Satire/Parody is a place for me to attempt to use humour and exaggeration to draw attention to issues and poke fun at authorities and attitudes.  Social Commentary is a place for my rants and exhortations on social and political issues – please read my first post there “Choose Peace”.  Songs could also be called lyrics in search of a musician.  I am open to any collaborations.

Please read as much as you want but click the like button when you do like something and make comments. Dialogue is encouraged!

Hi David, great blog! I got lost in the music and memories, especially Vancouver in the 60’s and the old Bunkhouse Coffee House. Jane from Galiano

    • Thank you so very much for the compliment. I am enjoying tapping into the creative flow these days, it helps to ward off the cynicism and frustration that comes with paying attention to world news and politics.

  4. hello David. New blogger or new blog? All the best!

    Cookies or Cake?
Up until a few months ago, I would have said cookies. Now they are both off my diet.
    Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla, the whole bean. I’m concerned about the chocolate industry using child labourers, many of whom are slaves, in the production of chocolate.
What is your favourite sweet treat?
Fruit – cherries or fresh berries.
When do you crave sweet things the most?
    In the evening.
If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be?
    Honey linguist.

  10. Love your treasure trove of a blog! You have quickly become one of my favorites!

  11. David, you are new to my site, but I’ve been reading you for sometime…especially through comments on our mutual friend’s blog, Susan Daniels. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my ‘non-literary’ blog…more importantly though, thanks for coming up on the porch and choosing to stick around. I appreciate that very much. Truth be told…can’t WAIT to design you…hat and all! Look forward to getting to know you, and just a warning…I am NOT your average wordsmith…I like to swear too much. I know, lazy, but ooooh so much more fun! Welcome new friend.
